One of our Skimmer customers has relied on Slack to keep track of tasks and wanted to know if “Alert the Office” emails could be sent to Slack. The answer is yes! While the default is to send via email, you can also opt to have these copied to Slack automatically following the instructions below. This provides another way to keep folks on your team informed and receive alerts on your mobile device.
Here’s how to do it:
First, create a group on Slack and add any members of your team. In my example, I titled the group “Alert the Office.”
Next, use the drop down next to the channel name, and select “Integrations.”
Down at the bottom, you should see an option to “Send emails to this channel.”

Clicking on “Send emails to this channel will give you a custom email address that will forward all “Alert the Office” emails to this particular channel. (You can also follow Slack’s instructions for sending emails to you as an individual. See Slack’s help article for more on that.
Once you have this email address, go into the Skimmer dash > Settings. Add a comma after the email address that’s there (if you have one) followed by the email provided by Slack. DO NOT USE SPACES!

Once that’s done, hit save, and voila! You’ll be able to have a searchable record in Slack for all “Alert the Office” messages. You can also opt to receive messages anytime a type of work order is created, or really any message that is emailed from Skimmer.
NOTE: While receiving the notification to my email address was near instantaneous, there was a slight delay on Slack. If you test and don’t see your message appear in Slack right away, give it a minute or two!
Hope this helps for you Slack users out there! Drop a line if you have any questions!
