Pricing Presentation and Structure Matters/Change My Mind

     I think that the way that you present the pricing to a customer matters. Specifically, in recurring services here in Florida. The two services here that have very dominate price presentation “ways of doing it’’ are lawn mowing and pool maintenance. Just look at the Skimmer Service Rate Index and you can see that 94.1% of all skimmer users are presenting with a monthly flat rate with chemicals included. Here in Florida when a customer asks you for your price on mowing or pool services, they are already expecting to receive a monthly flat rate number, with no asterisks or caveats. I like to think that this is happening in a Pavlovian way. Meaning that the customer has been trained or conditioned to expect the price presented in a specific way.     I am not concerned with the “how we got here” in this situation, rather I wanted to discuss the history only so that we can solve the problem of how to fix the problem of flat rate pricing in pool service.     I am new to the pool industry

Whats the best Vaccum?

Im new to owning a pool business and I invested in a riptide.  It's great for picking up leaves and such, but definitely not effective for dirt as it creates a cloud. I have been using a regular hose to Vaccum for that. Are there any vacuums out there that can pretty much pick anything? What the best effective Vaccum for c

When to hire my first tech?

Hey everyone! I'm new to the pool business. I purchased my first route here in the Atlanta area back in January.  I currently have 36 clients. I really want to expand my business.I have a couple of questions:1. When should I start looking to hire a technician?Do I try and double my existing route before I hire?2. Benefits vs Salary Increases

Does anyone offer benefits, ie health, vacation, retirement, etc? Over the past few years we started offering all of these to attract employees when it was difficult to find reliable employees. Now I’m seeing employees aren’t as interested in benefits and would rather have better hourly pay or salary. This mostly applies to the field technicians and not office staff or managers. What are your thoughts on taking benefits away and raise pay?

Thoughts and Ideas for This Video Format???

Hey Everyone,I decided to try a different style of content creation and I’m curious to hear what you guys think about it. I think it adds a unique and entertaining perspective to the videos when shooting in this format.I call it “Walkin’ Talkin’ Pools” and essentially I have my drone follow me as I talk about pool related topics. The thought is to be a “me to you” type of conversation that is unscripted and have some scenery to enjoy as I walk about and talk about pools or answer questions from others. I’d like to go to different places to shoot these videos so it’s always different.Thoughts?What are some ideas for topics you’d like covered in these? Here is the first one I just did. QBO and Skimmer synching

When payments are recorded as outside of Skimmer, they import into QB as bank deposits instead of undeposited funds.  So on the QB side of things, when we have a deposit to post, we need to post it against the “payment” but it’s already on the register as a deposit so I can’t match it.  Can you help with this?

Pool Tech Time Keeping

Hi All!Curious what time keeping apps or programs other Pros are using? While we pay our techs well and their full weekly salary even if they work less than 40 hours, we do not offer overtime currently. And as our company grows, we want to have best practices in place as well as verified protection so there is no question or confusion should there ever be a situation arise down the road. You always hope that people are good and honest but it is not always going to be the case. I do not want to use the same time keeping program as my payroll (ADP) so that it does not mess with the payroll.

Pool season is ramping up! What do you do for hiring and training employees???

It’s that time of year again… the start of POOL SEASON! Along with that usually comes hiring and training new staff to prep for the season ahead. My question to you is what do you do for hiring and training employees?? The video above is a cliff notes version of my successes and failures with hiring new staff. There’s been a lot of growing pains with this topic to figure out what we are looking for as a company and how to find them. The team I have now is the best I’ve ever had. Some luck is involved, some is “knowing” someone and the rest is just sifting through hundreds of applications to find the right fit. I’ve hired a lot of bad eggs along the way before I found the solid team I have now. So it’s not all unicorns and rainbows when wanting to grow. Believe me on that one! Hiring: We’re to the point now where we keep an Indeed listing open 24/7 to keep applications coming in to build up a list of applicants you'd like to hire when the time comes.
