Credit card fees add up fast, and for many pool pros, those costs cut directly into your margins. Over the past few months, we’ve heard from countless pros looking for a fair way to manage those fees without raising prices across the board.

That’s why we’ve introduced Surcharging in Skimmer Payments, a simple, compliant way to share credit card processing costs with customers who choose to pay by credit card. With surcharging, you can offset nearly 70% of your credit card fees on average while keeping your prices competitive and your customer experience consistent.

How it works

Surcharging automatically adds a small fee (3%) to credit card transactions only when and where it’s legally allowed. The surcharge appears as a separate line item on invoices, so customers always see it upfront before paying.

  • You can activate surcharging in your Payments settings with one click.
  • It’s applied only to credit cards, never to debit or prepaid cards.
  • Skimmer handles compliance automatically, based on your state and card network rules.

NOTE: Credit card companies require a 30-day waiting period before surcharges can be applied. Once you click “activate”, that waiting period will begin.

Why it matters

Manual surcharging can be risky and confusing. Skimmer makes it easy, accurate, and compliant, so you can focus on serving your customers and not tracking legal fine print. Plus, surcharging is fully integrated into Skimmer Payments, giving you one connected system for billing, payments, and compliance.

Where is surcharging allowed?

Surcharging is available for all Skimmer Payments customers, but it can only be used in states where surcharging is legally permitted. Skimmer automatically detects where it’s allowed and ensures compliance, so you don’t have to worry about it.

NOTE: Skimmer does not currently support surcharging in Minnesota, California, New York, Maine, Massachusetts, and Connecticut.
